The “Star Trek Universe” panel at New York Comic Con recently revealed exciting updates for fans of the beloved sci-fi franchise. Among the announcements were first looks at Season 3 of “Star Trek: Strange New Worlds” and the upcoming fifth and final season of “Star Trek: Lower Decks.” Attendees were treated to a special screening of the season premiere episode of “Lower Decks,” giving them a glimpse into the zany adventures of the animated series.
Additionally, Paramount+ announced the premiere date for the franchise’s first original TV movie, “Star Trek: Section 31,” set to debut on Jan. 24 on Paramount+ in the U.S. and internationally. The movie features a star-studded cast including Omari Hardwick, Kacey Rohl, and Robert Kazinsky, with executive producer and director Olatunde Osunsanmi at the helm. Star Michelle Yeoh, reprising her role as Emperor Philippa Georgiou from “Star Trek: Discovery,” made a special video appearance during the panel for the movie.
The “Strange New Worlds” panel featured stars Ethan Peck and Carol Kane alongside executive producers Akiva Goldsman and Henry Alonso Myers. They discussed the upcoming third season of the show, which follows the adventures of the USS Enterprise under the command of Capt. Christopher Pike, played by Anson Mount. The panel also announced that Rhys Darby of “Our Flag Means Death” will appear as a guest star in Season 3.
Fans were treated to a sneak peek of the Season 3 premiere of “Strange New Worlds,” which picks up immediately after the cliffhanger finale of Season 2. The clip showed Capt. Pike engaged in a life-or-death battle with the formidable aliens known as the Gorn. Season 3 is scheduled to premiere in 2025, much to the anticipation of fans eagerly awaiting the next chapter of the USS Enterprise’s journey.
The panel also included a surprise screening of the Season 5 premiere of “Lower Decks,” followed by a discussion with stars Tawny Newsome, Jack Quaid, Noël Wells, and Eugene Cordero, along with executive producer Mike McMahan. A first look clip from the season was released, teasing an encounter with an alternate reality version of the USS Cerritos led by Capt. Becky Mariner, portrayed by Tawny Newsome.
“Lower Decks” fans can look forward to the premiere of Season 5 on Paramount+ on Oct. 24, with two episodes airing on the same day.
