Following multiple allegations of sexual misconduct by Rep. Eric Swalwell, his campaign for governor in California has collapsed. This week, the House will vote on his potential expulsion.
Sen. Reuben Gallego (D-AZ), who previously supported and was friends with Swalwell, withdrew his endorsement as soon as the allegations surfaced. He has now publicly urged the House to remove Swalwell.

Gallego expressed on X:
“I support the ethics committee’s investigation and believe Eric Swalwell is no longer fit to be a Member of Congress. He should be expelled from Congress.”
He clarified, “I want to be clear: I had no knowledge of the allegations of assault, harassment, and predatory behavior against Eric Swalwell. I trusted someone who I believed was a friend, but it is now clear that he is not the person I thought I knew.”
Gallego praised the courage of the women who have come forward, stating they deserve belief, support, and justice.
As Gallego’s name emerges as a potential contender for the 2028 Democratic presidential race, he might be considering his political trajectory. Nonetheless, it appears many Democrats were unaware of the allegations concerning Swalwell.
