NBC’s Kristen Welker is a preferred choice for Trump when it comes to granting mainstream interviews. Unlike Fox News and Newsmax, she offers a balanced approach, neither overly critical nor overly supportive.

The success of Sunday shows and mainstream media largely depends on maintaining access, which often means not challenging interviewees too aggressively.

Media figures often aim to preserve relationships, but during a Meet The Press interview with Sen. Tim Scott (R-SC), Welker found it necessary to challenge the narrative of blaming Joe Biden for economic issues and inflation, a common stance among Trump and Republicans.

Welker addressed Scott:

Senator, I’m talking about costs. American families are also facing higher expenses due to President Trump’s taxes and tariffs. Senator Susan Collins of Maine expressed concern, stating that if these tariffs continue, businesses will likely pass on these additional costs to customers, leading to increased prices for Maine families. Is she correct, especially in light of past experiences with the president’s tariffs?

Scott responded by attributing the economic issues to Biden, saying, “Well, Kristen, you’re talking about a really important issue of cost. Let’s look back at the original sin of costs in America in the last eight years. It goes to Joe Biden who took inflation–”

Welker interjected, “Wait, President Trump has been in office for two years.”

Scott continued to attribute economic challenges to Biden, despite Welker’s clarification.
