Senator Josh Hawley (R-MO) secured a decisive victory in the Missouri Senate race on Tuesday night, defeating Democratic opponent Lucas Kunce with 56% of the vote to Kunce’s 42%. The election results showed Hawley with 1,639,359 votes, while Kunce garnered 1,234,159 votes.
Missouri, once a battleground state, also leaned towards the Republican side in the presidential election, with President Trump winning the state with 58.5% of the vote compared to Kamala Harris’s 40.1%.
However, the Senate race took a shocking turn when Lucas Kunce was involved in a troubling incident just two weeks before the election. Kunce was out shooting with Adam Kinzinger, a Republican In Name Only (RINO), when they decided to take aim at steel targets just ten feet away.
During this ill-conceived publicity stunt, Kunce accidentally hit a reporter with shrapnel. The reporter, Ryan Gamboa from KSHB 41 News, was covering the event at a private residence in Holt, Missouri when he was struck by the shrapnel from Kunce’s rifle. Fortunately, Gamboa’s injury was non-life threatening, and he was promptly treated at a nearby hospital.
The incident sparked outrage and disbelief, with many questioning the judgment and competence of Kunce and Kinzinger. A tweet circulating on social media captured the incredulity surrounding the incident, likening the duo’s actions to trying to make a notoriously inept individual look proficient with a firearm.
As the dust settles on the Missouri Senate race, Senator Josh Hawley emerges victorious, reaffirming his position as a stalwart representative for the state. Meanwhile, the shooting incident involving Lucas Kunce serves as a stark reminder of the risks and responsibilities that come with handling firearms, especially in the public eye.
