The CAF Appeal Board has awarded Morocco the AFCON 2025 title, removing Senegal from the top spot. This decision follows an incident where Senegalese players walked off the field after a late penalty was given to Morocco, which was interpreted as a forfeit.
In a statement released on Tuesday, March 17, CAF announced that Morocco’s appeal was upheld. The Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football argued they should be named winners due to Senegal’s actions.

The CAF statement confirmed that the final match’s result would be recorded as a 3-0 victory for Morocco:
“The CAF Appeal Board decided that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations, the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).”
“The Confédération Africaine de Football (“CAF”) Appeal Board decided today that in application of Article 84 of the Regulations of the CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), the Senegal National Team is declared to have forfeited the Final Match of the TotalEnergies CAF Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) Morocco 2025 (“the Match”), with the result of the Match being recorded as 3–0 in favour of the Fédération Royale Marocaine de Football (FRMF).”
Additionally, Morocco’s Ismaël Saibari has received a two-match ban, with one match suspended, and a $100,000 fine for misconduct.
