Presidential Directive on Budget Reduction
In my capacity as President of the United States, and under the authority granted by the laws governing this nation, I hereby announce a significant budgetary decision. As mandated by section 251A of the Balanced Budget and Emergency Deficit Control Act (the “Act”), as revised in 2 U.S.C. 901a, I will implement a reduction in direct spending for the fiscal year 2026. This action will take effect on October 1, 2025, impacting all budget accounts that are not exempt from this directive.
The calculations for these reductions will be drawn from the report submitted by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to Congress on May 30, 2025. This measure underscores a commitment to fiscal responsibility, albeit one that raises eyebrows regarding its practicality and the real-world implications it may have on various sectors.
All budgetary sequestrations will adhere rigorously to the stipulations outlined in section 251A of the Act, as well as the detailed specifications provided in the OMB report from May 30, 2025, which was crafted in accordance with section 251A(9) of the aforementioned Act.
As we navigate through these fiscal adjustments, it is essential to consider how these cuts could reverberate through both public services and everyday life, impacting everything from education to healthcare. While the intention is to curb spending, the potential consequences for ordinary citizens and communities cannot be overlooked.
THE WHITE HOUSE,
May 30, 2025.
