Former AEW Champion Blake Monroe Reveals Details About Departure from Promotion

In a recent interview, former AEW Women’s World Champion Blake Monroe (formerly known as Mariah May) opened up about her departure from All Elite Wrestling and her current journey in WWE’s NXT brand. Monroe, who made a name for herself in AEW under the guidance of Toni Storm, reflected on her time in the Jacksonville-based promotion and the evolution of her character.

Monroe joined AEW in 2023 as an understudy to Toni Storm and quickly made a name for herself as a rising star in the women’s division. However, a year later, she shocked the wrestling world by betraying Storm, adopting a new persona as “the Glamour,” and ultimately defeating Storm to capture the AEW Women’s World Championship at All In. After dropping the title back to Storm in 2025, Monroe made the decision to leave AEW and pursue new opportunities in WWE’s NXT brand.

During her interview with Denise Salcedo, Monroe revealed that her character of Mariah was “killed off” in AEW, but she felt that it was the perfect end for her storyline and the impact she had on the fans. She expressed excitement about starting a new chapter in her wrestling career and continuing to evolve her character in WWE.

In a separate sitdown with Sam Roberts on his NotSam Wrestling podcast, Monroe discussed her decision to remain in NXT instead of pushing for a main-roster call-up in WWE. Despite being a World Champion-level talent, Monroe expressed her admiration for the depth of talent in the NXT women’s division and stated that she still has many goals to accomplish before moving up to the main roster.

Monroe, who is a former one-time NXT Women’s North America Champion, emphasized that she is in no rush to make the leap to the main roster and is focused on feuding with other top women’s wrestlers in NXT. She mentioned wanting to challenge for the main women’s title and face off against a variety of competitors before considering a move to WWE’s main roster.

As Monroe continues to make waves in WWE’s NXT brand, fans can expect to see her continue to evolve her character and showcase her in-ring skills against some of the top women’s wrestlers in the industry. Her journey from AEW to WWE is a testament to her talent and determination to succeed in the world of professional wrestling.
