The disappearance of 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie, mother of “Today” show host Savannah Guthrie, has been deemed a kidnapping by Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos. Authorities believe she was abducted and did not leave home willingly.
Nanos stated, “I believe she was abducted, yes. She didn’t walk from there. She didn’t go willingly.”
Guthrie, who requires medication within 24 hours to prevent dire consequences, is considered to be in danger. Law enforcement is treating her disappearance as a criminal act.
Family members contacted authorities after she failed to attend church services and was last seen on Saturday. A search of her home near Tucson indicated the presence of a potential crime scene.
Nanos emphasized that Guthrie’s limited mobility rules out the possibility of her leaving on her own accord. He indicated that there are suspicious circumstances at the scene, leading them to conclude that a crime was committed.
Despite physical limitations, Guthrie is mentally sound according to Nanos. Her disappearance is not related to dementia, and her family is urging the community to provide any information that could aid in her safe return.
