In a bizarre twist of events, an NYPD detective, Melvin Eng, managed to infiltrate the Ryder Cup while masquerading as a member of President Trump’s security team. Clad in full tactical gear, this detective was reportedly out on sick leave when he pulled off this ambitious stunt.

According to a report by The New York Post, Eng’s ruse was aided by his claims of being tasked with federal duties. In his attempt to blend in, he apparently declared that he was providing security for the visiting president.

The New York Post detailed the circumstances:

Allegedly, Detective Eng showed up at the prestigious Ryder Cup golf tournament, decked out in tactical attire, claiming to be on security detail for President Trump—while he was actually on sick leave. This questionable escapade has now landed him in hot water with the NYPD, facing administrative charges for theft of services.

Despite his initial success, Eng’s ploy backfired when he inadvertently dropped his gun magazine in front of actual security personnel, prompting questions from colleagues: “You’re out sick, what are you doing at the Ryder Cup?” remarked a frustrated fellow officer. “You can’t do that. And it’s theft of service because you went in for free and then lied about working for Donald Trump.”

45-year-old Eng, who holds a position as the president of the NYPD Asian Jade Society, reportedly arrived at the tournament held in Farmingdale on a Friday, asserting that he was part of the security detail for President Trump.

Eng’s excitement at attending the tournament was cut short as he was promptly escorted off the premises following his blunder.

NEW: NYPD detective on sick leave allegedly slipped into the Ryder Cup with a firearm, fully outfitted in tactical gear, claiming he was part of Trump’s security detail, as reported by The New York Post.

Despite his claims, Eng found himself outwitted by his own negligence.

This incident marks yet another grim reminder of security oversight, following revelations of a Secret Service agent who fell asleep on duty during the United Nations General Assembly, leaving his automatic weapon unattended.

This is downright absurd. @SecretService allowed this individual entry into a high-profile event while coupled with incidents such as a Secret Service officer dozing off at UNGA and missing a Glock at Trump’s golf venue during Labor Day, which certainly raises eyebrows about their operational protocols… https://t.co/dJKpBEW9b7
