Stunning video footage has surfaced showing an off-duty NYPD officer firing at two individuals suspected of car theft. As a result, the officer has been suspended without pay.
The alarming incident occurred just after 9 p.m. on a Monday in the Bronx. The unnamed officer, suspecting the men of stealing his vehicle, pursued them in his SUV. The video captures the officer approaching their double-parked car in Kingsbridge and shooting without prior warning.
The sedan’s driver then rushed the wounded men, including a 30-year-old shot in the head, to New York-Presbyterian Hospital. The off-duty officer returned to his vehicle and left the scene, according to the video.
The victim remains in critical condition at the hospital.
Authorities have not provided detailed information about the event or identified the officer involved. It is also unclear why the officer believed the men were connected to the theft of his car.
The NYPD is currently investigating the incident.
