Pete Davidson made a triumphant return to “Saturday Night Live” in the cold open of the Jan. 31 episode, taking on the role of border czar Tom Homan. In the sketch, Davidson’s character is seen working alongside a group of ICE agents in Minneapolis who are hilariously unprepared for their mission.
Opening the segment, Davidson as Homan addresses the departure of his predecessor, Greg Bovino, jokingly stating, “I’m sure a lot of you are wondering why Greg Bovino, the last guy, was dismissed. I want to stress that it wasn’t because he did a bad job, or publicly lied about the shooting of an American citizen, or even, uh oh, dressed like a Nazi. It was that he was filmed doing these things, and the President no likey that. So I’m here now, and we need to tighten up.”
As Homan quizzes the recruits on their mission objective in Minneapolis, it becomes clear that they have no clear answers. Moving on to the topic of the use of force, Homan emphasizes the importance of avoiding the need for force altogether. When asked what they are keeping America safe from, a recruit humorously suggests “Don Lemon,” to which Homan agrees that the key is to simply avoid getting filmed doing anything illegal.
The Jan. 31 episode of SNL was hosted by Alexander Skarsgård, with musical guest Cardi B. In addition to his SNL appearance, Pete Davidson also launched his new Netflix video podcast “The Pete Davidson Show” on Friday, with Machine Gun Kelly as his first guest.
