Canada and the United States are gearing up to face each other in the women’s ice hockey gold medal game at the 2026 Milan Winter Olympics. The spotlight is on Marie-Philip Poulin, who is touted as the key player for Canada’s chances of pulling off an upset against the United States in the highly anticipated match.

Sid Seixeiro, former BT host, emphasized Poulin’s significance on the ice, stating that her mere presence, regardless of her physical condition, makes Canada a formidable opponent. He pointed out that the heavy expectation of an American victory could potentially work against the United States rather than in their favor.

Seixeiro went on to highlight Poulin’s pivotal role, stating, “What Marie-Philippe Poulin is doing here is, in my opinion, a top three storyline of this entire Winter Olympics for Canada physically, mentally, and all of it.” He lauded her leadership, positive influence, and galvanizing force within the team.

The prediction for a Canada win is contingent on Poulin’s availability, with Seixeiro stating, “If 29 in red is out there Thursday, Marie-Philippe Poulin has scored more goals in the Olympics than any other woman, Canada can win the game.” He expressed his unwavering belief in Poulin’s abilities, citing her as the driving force behind Canada’s potential victory.

Poulin, the all-time leading goal scorer in women’s Olympic hockey history with 20 goals, missed Canada’s preliminary round loss to the United States due to injury. Seixeiro hinted at Poulin playing through a more serious injury than publicly disclosed, underscoring her resilience and determination on the ice.

Despite the United States’ undefeated record in the tournament, including a 5-0 victory over Canada in group play, Seixeiro acknowledged the gap between the two teams but raised the question of how high expectations can affect a team’s performance in the crucial moments.

The women’s hockey gold medal game is scheduled for Thursday, Feb. 19, at 1:10 p.m. ET and will be broadcast on NBC and Peacock, promising an intense showdown between the two powerhouse teams.

In conclusion, Marie-Philip Poulin’s unwavering spirit and exceptional talent have positioned her as a game-changer for Canada in the quest for Olympic gold. As the anticipation builds for the epic showdown between Canada and the United States, all eyes will be on Poulin and her remarkable journey towards potential victory.
