Frederic Papaux, a spokesperson for Fribourg police, stated, “At this stage, we have elements suggesting a deliberate act by a person who was inside the bus.” Investigators are examining reports indicating that an individual doused themselves with fuel. However, it is too early to determine if the incident is linked to terrorism.
Swiss politician Romain Collaud expressed, “We have no indication that suggests we might be dealing with a terrorist attack.” The investigation is ongoing to ascertain the motive behind the tragic event.
Three individuals sustained injuries and were hospitalized, while two others received medical attention at the scene but did not require hospitalization. Passengers were observed fleeing from the burning bus on Tuesday evening, with no other vehicles involved in the incident.
A witness captured a video where an injured person claimed, “A man set himself on fire. He poured gasoline over himself and then lit himself.” The aftermath of the fire revealed the charred remnants of the yellow Postauto bus.
Swiss President Guy Parmelin extended his condolences and emphasized that a thorough investigation is underway. He expressed his dismay over the loss of lives in yet another serious fire incident in Switzerland. In January, the country was devastated by a fire in a bar in Crans Montana, resulting in 41 fatalities and 115 injuries.
