Dish Network Offers Discounted Sling TV Day Pass Following Legal Victory
Dish Network has announced a special promotion for its 24-hour Sling TV Day Pass following a recent legal victory. The pay-TV provider slashed the price of the Day Pass from $4.99 to just $1 until the end of the month. This offer is available to both new and returning customers and provides access to live and on-demand streaming of networks on the Sling Orange tier, including popular channels like ESPN, TNT, A&E, and CNN. The Day Pass allows users to enjoy 24 hours of content without any long-term commitment.
Seth Van Sickel, SVP of Sling TV, expressed his excitement about the court’s decision in favor of Dish Network. He emphasized the company’s commitment to providing consumers with affordable and flexible streaming options. Van Sickel stated, “Consumers deserve affordable TV, not bound by long-term contracts or bloated offerings. The $1 Day Pass is our way of saying thank you to the customers we fight for every day.”
In a recent legal battle, Disney filed a lawsuit against Dish Network over the Sling Passes, claiming they violated their existing carriage agreement. However, a federal judge ruled against Disney’s request for a preliminary injunction to block the Day Passes. The judge found that Disney had not demonstrated a likelihood of success in their breach-of-contract claims and did not prove irreparable harm.
The judge’s ruling highlighted that Disney’s distribution contract with Dish did not specify a minimum subscription length and defined a “subscriber” broadly to include users of any level of video programming service. Disney’s arguments about potential harm to their relationships with other distributors and their business model were deemed speculative by the court.
While Disney expressed disappointment in not obtaining preliminary relief, they look forward to presenting their case at trial. The legal battle between Disney and Dish Network is set to continue as both parties seek to defend their positions.
