The White House did not pressure the Smithsonian to remove references to President Donald Trump’s two impeachments from an exhibit, the museum announced. The Smithsonian stated that they were not asked by any Administration or government official to alter the exhibit.

The museum spokesperson, Phillip Zimmerman, confirmed that an updated exhibit including all impeachments will be installed in the coming weeks. The previous label referring to Trump’s impeachments was deemed temporary and did not meet the museum’s standards, prompting its removal.

Trump is the only president to have been impeached twice, in 2019 for pressuring Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and in 2021 for incitement of insurrection following the Capitol siege. The exhibit at the National Museum for American History will now be updated to reflect these historical events.

The House, with a Democratic majority, voted for impeachment both times, while the Republican-led Senate acquitted Trump on both occasions. The new exhibit is expected to provide a comprehensive overview of all impeachments in American history.
