The 6th annual Society of Composers and Lyricists awards ceremony saw a well-deserved recognition for the talented composers and musicians in the industry. Among the winners were Kris Bowers, Trent Reznor, and Atticus Ross, who stood out for their exceptional work.
Reznor and Ross clinched the top prize for outstanding original song with their track “Compress/Repress” from the movie “Challengers.” Additionally, Ross received another award for his contribution to “Shogun.” On the other hand, composer Daniel Blumberg was honored for his outstanding original score in the independent film “The Brutalist,” while Diane Warren’s song “The Journey” earned her a well-deserved win, marking her third SCL award.
The prestigious spirit of collaboration award was presented to composer Harry Gregson-Williams and director Ridley Scott for their exceptional teamwork on seven films, including “Gladiator II,” “The Martian,” and “Kingdom of Heaven.” This accolade recognizes their outstanding partnership in the realm of film composition. Past recipients of this award include industry luminaries such as Thomas Newman and Sam Mendes, Terence Blanchard and Spike Lee, Carter Burwell and the Coen Brothers, and Justin Hurwitz and Damien Chazelle.
Jeff Beal was also recognized with the SCL’s Jury Award for his performance of the classic 1920 silent film “The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari” at Carnegie Hall in June, showcasing his exceptional talent and dedication to the craft.
The awards ceremony took place at the Skirball Center in Los Angeles, where SCL President Ashley Irwin delivered a poignant speech highlighting the resilience and hope within the community amidst recent challenges, particularly the devastating fires that affected Los Angeles and the SCL community. Irwin emphasized the importance of celebrating not just personal achievements but also the collective strength that binds the community together in times of adversity.
