Composers Ludwig Göransson and Stephen Schwartz have emerged as frontrunners at the 2026 Society of Composers & Lyricists (SCL) Awards, each receiving three nominations. Göransson, known for his work on Ryan Coogler’s “Sinners,” has been recognized for outstanding original score for a studio film, as well as two nominations for outstanding original song for a dramatic or documentary visual media production for “I Lied to You” and “Last Time (I Seen the Sun).”
On the other hand, Schwartz, along with composer John Powell, has been nominated for scoring “Wicked: For Good,” and Schwartz also received a nod for outstanding original song for a comedy or musical visual media production for “No Place Like Home” and “The Girl in the Bubble” from the film.
Other notable nominees include Alexandre Desplat for “Frankenstein,” Jonny Greenwood for “One Battle After Another,” Max Richter for “Hamnet,” and Jerskin Fendrix for “Bugonia” in the outstanding original score for a studio film category. Additionally, Diane Warren, Sara Bareilles, Nikhil Koparkar & Rammy Park, and Ed Sheeran, Blake Slatkin & John Mayer are nominated for outstanding original song in various categories.
In the independent film category, nominations for outstanding original score went to Dara Taylor, Bryce Dessner, David Fleming, Fabrizio Mancinelli, Jónsi & Alex Sommers, and Sara Barone & Robert Christenson.
One of the highlights of the event will be the presentation of the Spirit of Collaboration Award to Ludwig Göransson and director Ryan Coogler for their exceptional partnership on films like “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” “Black Panther,” and “Sinners.”
The 7th Annual SCL Awards, hosted by Kevin Bacon and Michael Bacon, will take place at the Skirball Cultural Center on Feb. 6, 2026, in Los Angeles, California. The ceremony will feature a special performance by Melissa Manchester.
The full list of nominees for the 2026 SCL Awards includes categories such as Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film, Outstanding Original Score for an Independent Film, Outstanding Original Song for a Dramatic or Documentary Visual Media Production, Outstanding Original Song for a Comedy or Musical Visual Media Production, Outstanding Original Title Sequence for a Television Production, Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production, Outstanding Original Score for Interactive Media, and the David Raksin Award for Emerging Talent.
