Harlem Man Stabbed in the Neck by Son Dies Days Later

In a tragic turn of events, a 58-year-old man from Harlem was stabbed in the neck by his own son, leading to his untimely death several days later. The incident took place on July 20 inside an apartment at NYCHA’s Rangel Houses on Harlem River Drive near Frederick Douglass Boulevard.

The victim, whose identity has not been disclosed by the police, managed to stumble out of the apartment after being attacked by his 24-year-old son, Lamont Oliphant. He traversed down the hallway, into an elevator, through the lobby, and onto the sidewalk, leaving a trail of blood behind him.

He was rushed to Harlem Hospital, where he underwent surgery for a torn artery in his neck, being placed in a medically induced coma. Despite the medical efforts, the man’s condition continued to deteriorate until he passed away from his injuries.

Following the stabbing, Oliphant, who was found with a knife and bloodstains, approached the police outside the building and indicated his desire to return to his apartment. He provided details of his exact unit, which was the same one where the violent incident had occurred.

Initially charged with attempted murder and felony assault, Oliphant was held on bail during his arraignment. However, after the victim’s death, the charges were upgraded to second-degree murder, and Oliphant was ordered to be held without bail.

The city medical examiner’s office ruled the victim’s death as a homicide, highlighting the severity of the situation. The tragic incident serves as a reminder of the consequences of domestic violence and the devastating impact it can have on families.
