Key Executive Danish Khan to Depart Sony Pictures Networks India
After a decade-long tenure with Sony Pictures Networks India, Danish Khan, the business head of streaming platform SonyLIV and production unit Studio NXT, will be leaving the company at the end of March 2026. His departure, scheduled for March 31, will mark the end of a 20-year relationship with the company spanning two separate stints.
During his five-year leadership of SonyLIV starting in 2019, Khan spearheaded the platform’s relaunch as SonyLIV 2.0 and drove significant growth in the digital business. Under his guidance, the streaming service experienced over five-fold revenue growth and a quadrupling of its monthly active user base, contributing nearly 25% of SPNI’s overall revenue. Some of the successful series launched under his tenure include “Scam,” “Maharani,” “Rocket Boys,” “Freedom at Midnight,” “Tabbar,” and “Shark Tank.”
Prior to his role at SonyLIV, Khan served as the business head for Sony Entertainment Television, overseeing the creation of popular non-fiction and fiction properties such as “The Kapil Sharma Show,” “Kaun Banega Crorepati,” “Super Dancer,” “Yeh Un Dinon Ki Baat Hai,” and “Beyhadh.” He also played a key role in establishing Studio NXT, which produced hit shows like “Shark Tank” and “Freedom at Midnight.”
Gaurav Banerjee, MD and CEO of Sony Pictures Networks India, expressed gratitude for Khan’s contributions, stating, “Danish has been a key part of SPNI’s growth journey over the years, contributing across television, studio, and digital businesses. We thank him for his leadership and the strong foundation he leaves behind.” Khan also shared his sentiments, saying, “Sony Pictures Networks India has been an incredibly important part of my professional journey.”
In a statement, Khan expressed his gratitude for the trust and support he received during his time at SPNI and wished the teams at SonyLIV and Studio NXT continued success in the future. SPNI will announce succession plans at a later date to fill Khan’s role.
