The Otago Sparks have secured a spot in the Super Smash playoffs, although their final position on the table is still uncertain.

Today, the Sparks achieved a convincing six-wicket victory over the Northern Brave at Bay Oval.

This win propelled the Sparks to the top of the table with 28 points, surpassing Wellington who now sit in second place with 24 points. Wellington will face Auckland on Monday and Northern on Thursday, with high expectations for victories in both matches.

If Wellington manages to win both games, Otago will slip to second or third place, setting up an elimination final for them.

Meanwhile, Northern (16 points) and Auckland (14 points) are battling it out for their spot in the playoffs.

The Sparks’ captain, Hayley Jensen, delivered an outstanding performance today, scoring 49 runs off 34 balls to lead her team to victory.

Otago got off to a strong start with the ball, as Emma Black opened with a maiden over and Eden Carson claimed the crucial wicket of Chamari Athapaththu with her first delivery.

The Sparks maintained pressure on Northern, restricting them to 29 for one at the end of the power play and taking key wickets throughout the innings.

In their chase, Suzie Bates and Bella James provided a solid foundation for the Sparks before Bates was dismissed. Jensen, promoted up the order, played a crucial innings alongside Olivia Gain to guide the team towards victory.

Despite losing quick wickets at times, Jensen’s aggressive batting, including a powerful six, propelled the Sparks towards their target. Polly Inglis sealed the win with a boundary, securing a six-wicket victory for Otago.
