This morning on Fox News, House Speaker Mike Johnson disclosed that the ongoing government shutdown, which is entering its tenth day, is expected to extend beyond next week, coinciding with the upcoming “No Kings” protest against the Trump Administration on October 18.
Despite ongoing calls to reopen the government, Democrats continue to oppose measures that would result in its resumption. Their demands include taxpayer-funded healthcare for undocumented immigrants, sustained financial support for PBS, and an additional $1.5 trillion in public spending.
Senate Proposals to Reopen Government Fail as Schumer Shutdown Persists
Organizers of the No Kings protest are preparing for a significant rally on the National Mall, an event that Speaker Johnson noted has some House Democrats reportedly selling T-shirts to galvanize support. He stated that the party leadership fears a backlash from their base if the government is reopened before the protest.
In a rather striking admission, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer spotlighted the anticipated political advantages of the shutdown, asserting that “every day gets better for us.” However, the gravity of this statement pales in comparison to the real-life implications for millions of Americans who will experience missed paychecks as a result of Democrats prioritizing radical progressive agendas over pragmatic governance.
In response to Schumer’s optimistic assessment, Johnson articulated the genuine dilemmas faced by average citizens: “I have absolutely had it with these antics. They’re messing with the lives of real people.”
WATCH:
Earhardt: Hearing Chuck Schumer say, ‘every day gets better for us’—what about the individuals missing paychecks, particularly the spouses of deployed service members? What about families whose travel plans are foiled with delayed or canceled flights? How is that beneficial for the public?
Johnson: The damage inflicted on real lives is resonating with us from our constituents. House Republicans are presently in their districts striving to alleviate the ramifications of this crisis, which has been orchestrated by Democratic leadership. Services like health and nutrition assistance are on the chopping block. Even FEMA is hindered from processing flood insurance claims in the midst of hurricane season because of this chaos. My patience is wearing thin; I’m appalled they would manipulate these situations.
We know there’s a “hate America” rally scheduled for October 18 in DC, to be attended by pro-Hamas factions and Antifa supporters. Some House Democrats are capitalizing on this, selling merchandise for the event. Reports suggest they will not permit the government to reopen until after the rally, fearing backlash from their fervent supporters. This situation is yielding substantial harm to real families, and I’m at a loss for words—it’s unbelievable they’re playing this game.
In a further lament, Johnson issued a statement underscoring that Congressional Democrats seem to be aligning themselves with radical leftist organizations that are backing the October 18 protest, following intense pressure to maintain the government shutdown. Notably, Axios has revealed that Schumer’s office has even established a clandestine “shutdown war room” to collaborate with progressive activists and unions—such as MoveOn and the Progressive Change Campaign Committee—to synchronize their messaging and tactical approaches. This initiative began weeks ahead of the shutdown, with Schumer’s team disseminating talking points and campaign-style materials to energize the Far-Left, as detailed in Johnson’s press release.
