Prime Video has given the green light to a new Korean romantic comedy series titled “Nice to Not Meet You,” which will feature “Squid Game” star Lee Jung-jae and “The Glory” standout Lim Ji-yeon in lead roles.
This project marks a departure from Lee Jung-jae’s usual roles, as he gained international recognition for his Emmy-winning performance in the intense survival thriller “Squid Game” and ventured into the “Star Wars” universe with “The Acolyte.” In “Nice to Not Meet You,” he will portray Lim Hyeon-jun, an actor typecast in detective roles who is eager to take on more challenging dramatic characters.
Lim Ji-yeon, known for her acclaimed performance in the Netflix revenge thriller “The Glory,” will play Wi Jeong-sin, a political reporter whose assignment is changed to entertainment coverage in the middle of an investigation. The dynamic between the serious journalist and the entertainment industry she is now covering promises to deliver comedic moments in a fish-out-of-water scenario.
The series will be directed by Kim Ga-ram, known for his work on the legal drama “Good Partner” and Netflix’s drama-romance “Nevertheless,” with scripts penned by Jung Yeo-rang, the writer behind “Doctor Cha.” The creative team aims to blend industry satire with romantic comedy, exploring the humor inherent in the inner workings of the entertainment world.
Prime Video’s decision to cast Lee Jung-jae and Lim Ji-yeon reflects their strategy to capitalize on the growing popularity of Korean content worldwide. Leveraging Lee Jung-jae’s post-“Squid Game” fame and Lim Ji-yeon’s rising profile, the streaming platform seeks to compete with Netflix’s dominance in the realm of Korean dramas.
“Nice to Not Meet You” will join Prime Video’s expanding lineup of Korean originals, joining titles like “Head Over Heels,” “Good Boy,” and acquired anime series such as “Jujutsu Kaisen 0” and “Rurouni Kenshin.”
The series will be available for global audiences in over 240 countries and territories, with episodes releasing weekly. While no premiere date has been announced yet, viewers can anticipate an engaging and entertaining romantic comedy set in the fast-paced world of Korean entertainment.
