Police Connect Fatal Stabbings of Two Homeless Men in Aurora
Authorities in Aurora revealed on Monday that the fatal stabbings of two men experiencing homelessness in the area are believed to be linked, according to a statement released by the Aurora Police Department.
The tragic incidents occurred within half a mile of each other near East Colfax Avenue in Aurora early Sunday morning. The first victim was discovered injured around 1:45 a.m. in the 1500 block of Moline Street and succumbed to his injuries. The second victim was found with stab wounds near a bus stop on Peoria Street south of East Colfax Avenue at approximately 6:45 a.m. and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identities of the victims have not been disclosed.
Given the close timeline, proximity, and similarity of injuries, authorities suspect that the attacks are connected. While initial investigations indicate that both victims were homeless, it remains unclear if their housing status played a role in the attacks.
The Aurora Police Department’s homeless abatement and relocation team is collaborating with detectives from the major crimes homicide unit to investigate the incidents, provide outreach, and offer support services to individuals in the vicinity.
As of now, no information regarding potential suspects has been released, and no arrests have been made. Law enforcement officials are currently reviewing surveillance footage and appealing to the public for any relevant information. Individuals with tips are encouraged to contact Crime Stoppers at 720-913-7867. Tipsters can choose to remain anonymous and may qualify for a reward of up to $2,000.
