Stamps Gallery proudly introduces Stacey L. Kirby’s The Bureau of Personal Belonging, a groundbreaking series of interactive performances situated within immersive installations. This work encourages open dialogue around personal and collective identities, fostering community engagement and civic empowerment. Visitors are invited to engage in this innovative exploration using bureaucratic forms and language to spark playful interactions with the artist and performers.

As the 2025 Roman J. Witt Artist-in-Residence, Kirby dedicated 12 weeks from January to March 2025 to meet with students, faculty, and staff at the University of Michigan. These engagements inspired a site-specific installation in Ann Arbor that amplifies the university community’s voices, upholds democratic values, and emphasizes art’s role in solidarity and respect.

Curated by Srimoyee Mitra with the support of Haley Babcock-Perkins, The Bureau of Personal Belonging will be on display until November 8 at Stamps Gallery within the Penny W. Stamps School of Art & Design at the University of Michigan. This exhibit is generously funded by the U-M Arts Initiative.
