It is possible that there is an explanation for Trump’s behavior. As U.S. District Judge Paula Xinis mentioned, accidentally sending Garcia to a notoriously brutal prison “shocks the conscience.”
Perhaps the issue lies in the fact that Trump may not possess a conscience to be shocked in the first place.
Colbert offered his impression of the president to elaborate on this point.
“I’m sorry, shocks the what now?” Colbert said in his Trump voice. “Oh, the little voice in my head? I strangled that sucker a long time ago. It screamed, ‘it’s wrong to kill me’ but once it was gone, I’m telling you, nothing was ever wrong again.”
