Opens Up About His Prison Sentence and Fraud Case on Todd Chrisley’s Podcast

Steve McBee Sr. recently sat down for an emotional interview with reality star Todd Chrisley on the “Chrisley Confessions” podcast, where he discussed his upcoming 24-month prison sentence. McBee, 52, was sentenced to two years behind bars in October 2025 after pleading guilty in a multi-million dollar crop insurance fraud case. The former star of “McBee Dynasty” opened up about the details of his case and the impact it has had on his family.

During the podcast, McBee revealed that the investigation into his farming business started before his reality show had even finished airing. He explained that the U.S. Attorney’s Office had sent a “best and final offer” to avoid prosecution for insurance fraud, giving him just 48 hours to decide. In order to protect his son, Steven McBee Jr., and their employees from facing legal trouble, McBee agreed to plead guilty to one count of giving a fraudulent statement to crop insurance.

McBee clarified that the discrepancies in reporting his crop yields between 2018 and 2020 were due to a “clerical issue” on one half-field of his property. He claimed that the investigation was a “trophy prosecution” at the highest level and that the investigator had a personal vendetta against him and his family.

Despite the circumstances surrounding his case, McBee expressed remorse for his actions and the impact they have had on his loved ones. He acknowledged that he made a mistake and accepted responsibility for his actions. He also emphasized the importance of taking accountability for his wrongdoing and moving forward with a positive attitude.

As he prepared to begin serving his prison sentence in Yankton, South Dakota, on December 1, McBee thanked his fans for their support and vowed to use his time behind bars to reflect on his mistakes and work towards redemption. He expressed hope for a brighter future and a chance to rebuild his reputation and relationships with his family and community.

Overall, Steve McBee Sr.’s interview with Todd Chrisley provided a candid look into his legal troubles and the emotional toll they have taken on him and his family. Despite facing a challenging road ahead, McBee remains resilient and determined to learn from his mistakes and emerge from this experience as a stronger and more accountable individual. After facing the possibility of a 30-year prison sentence, Steve McBee Sr. made the difficult decision to take a plea deal in his case. The media frenzy surrounding the potential sentence was described by Todd Chrisley as a “shock and awe” tactic, with news articles circulating almost immediately after the news broke.

Steve Sr. revealed that the U.S. Attorney’s Office had allegedly threatened to file 27 federal indictments against him if he did not agree to a plea deal. Concerned about the impact this would have on his banking partners and business funding, Steve Sr. decided to take responsibility and protect his son and other associates from facing similar charges.

In a candid conversation with his lawyer, Steve Sr. discussed the likelihood of successfully fighting the charges and ultimately agreed to plea out to one count of a fraudulent statement. He emphasized that he was taking accountability for the situation, even though the issue stemmed from a clerical error rather than intentional fraud.

The decision to take a plea deal was not an easy one for Steve Sr., but he prioritized protecting his loved ones and business partners from potential legal consequences. Despite the challenges he faced, he remained resolute in his decision to take responsibility for the situation and move forward with integrity.
