iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 Sequoia have brought some exciting changes, one of which is the new Type to Siri option. This feature allows users to interact with Siri through typing instead of speaking out loud, making it convenient for situations where voice control is not feasible, such as in a library or on a crowded subway.

While the ability to type to Siri has been available on Apple devices for a while, it was previously tucked away in the Accessibility settings and not easily accessible. With the latest updates, Apple has made it more prominent in its operating systems, making typing to Siri as simple as talking to it.

One of the key features of the new Type to Siri option is the integration of the ChatGPT extension, which can be enabled from the Apple Intelligence & Siri settings on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This allows users to seamlessly switch between typing and talking to Siri as needed during a conversation.

To enable the new Type to Siri options on your Apple devices, you first need to activate Apple Intelligence in the Settings or System Settings. Once enabled, you can access various Siri settings to customize your preferences for interacting with the digital assistant. With Apple Intelligence turned on, you can effortlessly switch between typing and talking without having to adjust settings each time.

On iOS and iPadOS, you can enable Type to Siri by going to Settings, selecting Apple Intelligence & Siri, and toggling on the Type to Siri option. This allows you to launch the typing interface by double-tapping at the bottom of the screen and receive text responses from Siri.

On macOS, Type to Siri is automatically enabled when Apple Intelligence is turned on, and there is no separate toggle switch for it. To type to Siri, simply click on the Siri icon in the menu bar or use the specified keyboard shortcut (usually pressing the Command button twice).

Even with Type to Siri enabled, users can easily switch back to voice commands by tapping or clicking on the microphone icon within the Siri interface. This flexibility ensures that you can interact with Siri in the most convenient way for you.

For users who prefer the older Type to Siri options or do not have Apple Intelligence enabled, the Accessibility settings still offer the ability to type to Siri on iOS, iPadOS, and macOS. This option allows users to launch the typing input with a double-tap or a keyboard shortcut and customize how Siri responds with text or voice.

In conclusion, the new Type to Siri option in iOS 18.1, iPadOS 18.1, and macOS 15.1 Sequoia provides users with a convenient way to interact with Siri through typing. Whether you prefer typing or talking to Siri, Apple has made it easy to switch between the two modes seamlessly. When it comes to iPhones and iPads, users have the ability to enable or disable voice control for Siri from the same screen. This can be done through the “Listen for” setting, allowing users to choose between using voice activation or typing out commands to interact with Siri.

Voice control for Siri is a convenient feature that enhances the user experience by providing a hands-free way to access information and perform tasks on your device. By simply speaking commands to Siri, users can make phone calls, send messages, set reminders, play music, and much more without having to physically interact with their device.

To enable voice control for Siri, users can navigate to the settings menu on their iPhone or iPad and locate the “Siri & Search” option. From there, they can toggle the “Listen for ‘Hey Siri'” setting to activate voice control. This allows Siri to listen for the wake phrase “Hey Siri” and respond to commands spoken by the user.

On the other hand, if users prefer not to use voice control for Siri, they can easily disable this feature by turning off the “Listen for ‘Hey Siri'” setting in the Siri & Search menu. This will prevent Siri from responding to voice commands and require users to manually input their requests by typing them out on the device.

Overall, the ability to enable or disable voice control for Siri on iPhones and iPads provides users with flexibility in how they interact with their devices. Whether you prefer to use voice activation or typing for Siri commands, the choice is yours to make based on your personal preference and needs.
