Man Facing Felony Charges for Alleged Road Rage Shooting on Dan Ryan Expressway
A 36-year-old man from Country Club Hills is facing a slew of felony charges after allegedly opening fire on a car full of people during a road rage incident on the Dan Ryan Expressway earlier this month, resulting in two victims being wounded. Lamarkcus Ferguson is charged with five counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated battery by discharging a firearm, and five counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. on July 9 on the inbound Dan Ryan Expressway near 47th Street. Illinois State Police responded to reports of shots fired and discovered a Chevy Blazer with multiple bullet holes in the rear and passenger sides. Inside the vehicle were five men in their late teens, two of whom had sustained gunshot wounds.
According to a police report, the driver of the Chevy Blazer recounted that a dark vehicle abruptly changed lanes, slowed down, and pulled alongside his SUV. The other driver rolled down his window, shouted at the victims, and then proceeded to open fire, discharging approximately 10 rounds before speeding off towards downtown.
One of the wounded men was critically injured in the shooting. Investigators were able to locate a witness who had been directly behind the suspect’s vehicle and observed a hand holding a gun emerge from the driver’s side window and fire shots. The suspect’s vehicle was identified as a 2025 Hyundai Kona, and the license plate was entered into a law enforcement alert system.
On the same day as the shooting, Country Club Hills police stopped the suspect’s vehicle and detained Ferguson, who was driving at the time. A 9mm handgun was reportedly recovered from Ferguson’s waistband, which investigators believe matches the shell casings found at the scene of the expressway shooting.
During a court hearing, Judge Ankur Srivastava granted prosecutors’ request to keep Ferguson detained pending trial.
