The upcoming Amazon series based on Sunny Hostin’s novel “Summer on the Bluffs” has made progress with the addition of Norman Vance Jr. as the showrunner. The project is currently in development, with Vance set to executive produce the series alongside Hostin and Regina Jansen of Sunny Hostin Productions. 20th Television will also be involved in the production, with Amazon MGM Studios handling the production duties. Although Octavia Spencer was initially attached as an executive producer, she is no longer involved in the show.

According to an exclusive report by Variety in 2023, “Summer on the Bluffs” follows the story of Amelia Vaux Tanner, also known as Ama, who has led a remarkable life. Ama, dubbed ‘The Witch of Wall Street,’ was one of the first Black women on the stock exchange floor. She married a prominent civil rights attorney and built her dream home on the bluffs of Martha’s Vineyard. Now, Ama is ready to pass on her beloved Vineyard home, Chateau Laveau, along with her secrets to three women – Perry, Olivia, and Billie – who grew up under her godmotherly guidance. As successful professionals, the women wonder who will inherit the house and why Ama came into their lives in the first place.

Norman Vance Jr. has a successful track record in television, having created the Disney series “Saturdays” and worked as a consulting producer on Netflix’s “Forever.” His other credits include shows like “Swagger” on Apple TV, “Our Kind of People” on Fox, “Queen Sugar” on OWN, and “American Soul” on BET.

Vance is represented by Heroes and Villains and Goodman Genow. The series adaptation of “Summer on the Bluffs” promises to be a compelling and engaging exploration of family dynamics, secrets, and the bonds that tie us together. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project as it continues to develop.
