A tragic incident has rocked the small town of Union, Maine, as a paddleboarder named Sunshine Stewart was found dead under mysterious circumstances on an island in Crawford Pond. The 48-year-old’s body was discovered in the early hours of July 3, after she failed to return from her solo paddleboarding trip the previous evening. Authorities are treating her death as a homicide, but the killer remains at large, leaving the community in shock and fear.

The island where Stewart’s body was found, known as 100 Acre Island, is located in the middle of Crawford Pond and can only be accessed by boat. The remote location has made the investigation challenging for law enforcement, who are working tirelessly to identify the culprit. The Maine State Police have reassured the residents of Union and the Crawford Pond community, urging them to remain calm and vigilant while they pursue justice for Stewart.

Stewart, described as an experienced paddleboarder and outdoor enthusiast, set out on her fateful journey around 6 p.m. on July 2 near the Mic Mac Cove Family Campground. When she failed to return after six hours, she was reported missing, sparking a search operation that ultimately led to the discovery of her body on the island. The campground owners have been cooperating with the authorities, allowing access to the crime scene as the investigation progresses.

Authorities have been following up on leads and tips received through a hotline, as well as appealing to any witnesses who may have seen Stewart paddleboarding on the evening of July 2. The Major Crimes Unit Central is conducting a thorough investigation, reviewing all available evidence and forensic avenues to solve the case. Stewart’s family and friends have described her as a remarkable individual, known for her love of the outdoors and adventurous spirit.

Union, a close-knit community of approximately 2,500 residents, is reeling from the tragic loss of Sunshine Stewart. As the investigation continues, the town remains on edge, hoping for answers and justice for the beloved paddleboarder. The memory of Stewart, a marine biologist, lobster catcher, and boat captain, will live on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her, as they seek closure and peace in the wake of this senseless tragedy.
