Republican lawmakers have intensified their investigation into billionaire George Soros’ acquisition of a significant number of U.S. radio stations.

Soros, known for his support of Democratic and liberal causes, raised concerns with his purchase of American radio stations just before the election through a complex business deal following Audacy’s bankruptcy filing.

House Energy and Commerce Committee Chair Cathy McMorris Rodgers highlighted that the deal would result in “25% of the company being indirectly foreign owned,” typically necessitating Federal Communications Commission (FCC) scrutiny. However, the FCC waived the review process, expediting the transaction.

Rodgers, along with approximately 40 Republican lawmakers, penned a letter to FCC Chair Jessica Rosenworcel, seeking clarification on the matter. This move represents the latest Congressional examination of Soros’ acquisitions.

“We write to better understand the recent decision made by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to waive its foreign ownership rules to fast track the purchase of more than 200 radio stations in the United States (U.S.) by a Fund backed by a Democrat mega-donor,” the letter stated.

As previously reported, House Oversight Chair Rep. James Comer and Rep. Nick Langworthy raised similar concerns in a letter to Rosenworcel, questioning the expedited approval process for a company in which George Soros holds a significant ownership stake.

The lawmakers expressed apprehension that the FCC’s actions may be favoring Soros and facilitating his influence over hundreds of radio stations before the upcoming election.
