UAB Blazers offensive lineman Daniel Mincey has found himself in hot water after being arrested by the police for aggravated assault and attempted murder. The shocking incident took place on a Friday morning inside UAB’s Football Operations Center.

Reports indicate that Mincey allegedly stabbed two of his teammates, causing injuries that required them to be rushed to the hospital. Thankfully, the injuries sustained by the two players were not life-threatening. This disturbing event unfolded just before the Blazers’ scheduled game against the South Florida Bulls on Saturday.

Following the incident, Daniel Mincey was promptly arrested and taken into custody. His collegiate football journey began with the Kentucky Wildcats in 2024, and after redshirting his freshman year, he made the decision to transfer to UAB this season. Despite not having played a game for the team yet, the Blazers proceeded with their game against the South Florida Bulls.

Unfortunately, the game ended in a disappointing 48-18 loss for the Blazers. Quarterback Jalen Kina struggled, completing 20 of 36 passes for 230 yards with no touchdowns and three interceptions. In contrast, USF quarterback Byrum Brown had a stellar performance, completing 19 of 25 passes for 353 yards and five total touchdowns.

As a result of the loss, the Blazers now hold a 3-8 record (1-6 AAC) with a four-game losing streak. However, the focus shifted to the well-being of the injured players, with UAB releasing a statement reassuring that they were in stable condition and receiving the necessary support during the ongoing investigation.

The program’s statement also mentioned their decision to proceed with the game against South Florida and emphasized their commitment to prioritizing the safety and well-being of all their students. With the investigation still ongoing, the program refrained from providing further comments at that time.

Looking ahead, the Blazers are set to face the Tulsa Golden Hurricanes (4-7, 1-6 AAC) in their final regular-season game. This season marks coach Trent Dilfer’s third campaign with the program, adding another layer of significance to the upcoming matchup.

In conclusion, the shocking incident involving Daniel Mincey has undoubtedly cast a shadow over the UAB football program. As they navigate the aftermath of this troubling event, the team remains focused on supporting the injured players and maintaining their commitment to the safety and well-being of their student-athletes.
