Disney Petit, founder and CEO of Liquidonate, is revolutionizing the retail industry with a groundbreaking solution to the returns crisis. In a recent episode of Sustainability In Your Ear, Petit shared how her innovative platform is transforming the way retailers handle returned products.

The traditional approach to handling returns involves sending products back to warehouses, where they may end up in landfills if they can’t be resold. This process not only contributes to environmental waste but also incurs significant costs for retailers. With nearly 17% of all retail purchases being returned each year, the impact on the environment and the bottom line is substantial.

Petit’s vision for a more sustainable solution led her to create Liquidonate, a platform that connects returned products directly to local nonprofits and schools in need. By integrating with retailers’ existing systems, Liquidonate streamlines the process of matching returned items with organizations that can put them to good use. This approach not only reduces waste but also benefits communities by providing access to quality products that would otherwise have been discarded.

Since its inception, Liquidonate has diverted over 12 million items from landfills and partnered with more than 4,000 nonprofits across the country. By eliminating the option for customers to keep returned items while still receiving a refund, the platform also addresses return fraud and ensures that products are redirected to those who truly need them.

Petit’s commitment to environmental justice is evident in her approach to building a for-profit company that prioritizes social impact. By demonstrating that doing good and doing well are not mutually exclusive, she is reshaping the way businesses can make a positive difference in the world.

Nonprofits and schools can sign up for free on the Liquidonate website, while retailers interested in partnering can reach out to partners@liquidonate.com. With a potential $900 billion worth of inventory available for redirection, Petit’s innovative platform is paving the way for a more sustainable and socially responsible retail industry.
