Chicago police are currently on the lookout for the driver of an SUV involved in a tragic hit-and-run incident that resulted in the death of a 22-year-old man in Gage Park. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday morning at around 3:25 a.m. on the 5400 block of South Kedzie Avenue. The victim was walking in the crosswalk when a northbound SUV ran a red light and struck him.

Eyewitnesses reported that the vehicle, believed to be a Toyota 4Runner Limited, fled the scene at high speed without stopping. The SUV may have sustained front-end damage on the passenger side. It was last spotted in the vicinity of Archer Avenue and Sacramento Avenue.

Upon arrival at the scene, responding officers found the victim lying on the street near 55th Street and Kedzie Avenue. He was promptly transported to Mount Sinai Hospital in critical condition but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries at 4:14 a.m.

Authorities are urging anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the investigation. Individuals can reach out to the Major Accident Investigation Unit at 312-745-4521 or submit an anonymous tip at CPDTIP.com, citing case number JJ367808.

This unfortunate incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety and responsible driving. Hit-and-run accidents not only result in devastating consequences for the victims and their loved ones but also highlight the need for accountability and justice in such cases.

As the search for the driver continues, the community is urged to remain vigilant and report any relevant information that may aid in apprehending the individual responsible for this senseless tragedy. Let us come together to ensure that justice is served and prevent such incidents from recurring in the future.
