It appears that animals may be growing increasingly weary of human activities and technological advancements.
In a notable incident, jellyfish have once again caused the shutdown of a nuclear reactor in northern France. This is not an isolated event, but part of a broader pattern of nature disrupting human infrastructure in recent years.
The motives of these jellyfish, whether a protest against French energy policies or simply a navigational error, remain unclear as the jellyfish have not provided any official statement. However, the fact that this has occurred on the same date for two consecutive years suggests a level of coordination.

According to Politico, the Gravelines nuclear power plant invested hundreds of thousands of euros in 2025 to prevent further disruptions, only to face the same issue a year later.
The plant was forced to shut down as a precaution when an influx of jellyfish overwhelmed the pumping systems critical to its operation.
Beyond the humor, this incident underscores a serious consequence of climate change.
Rising water temperatures can lead to an increase in plankton and other food sources for jellyfish, as well as accelerate their life cycles and extend breeding periods.
The French utility provider EDF has deployed fishing vessels to monitor the waters continuously, aiming to keep jellyfish away from the nuclear plant. Full operations are anticipated to resume shortly.

Jellyfish are not the only animals causing havoc with human energy systems.
In Connecticut last year, a single raccoon managed to disrupt power to more than a thousand homes, according to CT Insider.
While the specifics remain uncertain, it is known that the raccoon somehow infiltrated a substation, resulting in equipment damage.
This unintended act of sabotage left over 2,500 customers temporarily without power, although repairs were promptly completed.
Animal-related disruptions can also impact scientific facilities – as seen at the Laser Interferometer Gravitational-Wave Observatory (LIGO) in Washington.

As recorded in logbooks from July 2017, ravens pecking at ice-covered cooling pipes caused vibrations that interfered with the observatory’s sensitive instruments. These pecks led to data glitches.
