Netflix is set to unveil an exclusive first look at “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85” at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in June. Executive producer Eric Robles will present the new animated series, which is set in the “Stranger Things” universe, during the “Next on Netflix Animation” showcase on June 11.
The organizers teased that “Your Saturday morning cartoons are getting turned upside down” with the debut of “Stranger Things: Tales From ’85.” But this won’t be the only highlight at the festival. Director Alex Woo, production designer Steven Pilcher, and VFX supervisor Nicola Lavender will also be showcasing never-before-seen footage from the upcoming film “In Your Dreams,” produced by Kuku Studios and set for release in the fall.
“In Your Dreams” is a comedy adventure that follows siblings Stevie and Elliot as they navigate the bizarre world of their own dreams, facing challenges like a snarky stuffed giraffe, zombie breakfast foods, and the queen of nightmares. Co-directed by Erik Benson, the film promises a heartwarming story of family and friendship, with a touch of humor and adventure.
Another exciting addition to the festival lineup is “Fixed,” an adult comedy film from Genndy Tartakovsky about a dog who discovers he’s about to be neutered. Before the procedure, he embarks on one last wild adventure. Tartakovsky shared that while the content may be risqué, the film aims to deliver a classic yet charming story of friendship and romance, albeit with a rated R twist. “Fixed” is set to premiere on Aug. 13, boasting a star-studded cast including Adam Devine, Idris Elba, Kathryn Hahn, and more.
In addition to these screenings, Netflix will also showcase titles like “Astérix & Obélix: The Big Fight,” “Devil May Cry,” and “Mononoke The Movie: Chapter II – The Ashes of Rage” at the festival. Each of these projects promises a unique and engaging story, adding to the diverse lineup of animated content on Netflix.
Furthermore, a masterclass with Raphael Bob-Waksberg, creator of “BoJack Horseman,” will be held, offering insights into his upcoming comedy series “Long Story Short.” The series follows the Schwooper siblings through the ups and downs of life, spanning different time periods and capturing the essence of family dynamics.
The festival will also feature a sneak peek at Ubisoft’s “Splinter Cell: Deathwatch,” a thrilling adaptation of the popular video game franchise. Legendary agent Sam Fisher is drawn back into action when a young operative seeks his help, setting the stage for an intense and action-packed story.
With a lineup that includes a variety of genres and styles, Netflix’s presence at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival promises to be a treat for animation enthusiasts. From family-friendly adventures to adult comedies and thrilling adaptations, there’s something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to mark your calendars for this exciting showcase of animated content from Netflix.
