The Floor: Talpa Studios’ Quiz Format Reaches New Milestone
Talpa Studios, founded by John de Mol, has announced that their quiz format “The Floor” has achieved a significant milestone by being sold to 20 countries in just a year and a half. This success solidifies its position as one of the fastest-growing formats globally, with recordings taking place in the Netherlands.
Five new territories, including Finland, Denmark, Uruguay, Chile, and Australia, have recently acquired the adaptation rights for “The Floor”, bringing the total number of markets to 20.
Since its debut in the Netherlands in 2023, the show has been picked up in major markets like the U.S., France, Spain, and Germany. Renewals have already been announced, with the show currently in its third season in the Netherlands and Season 2 airing in the U.S., hosted by Rob Lowe.
Named the “Format to Watch” by research organization K7 Media, “The Floor” continues to captivate audiences worldwide with its dynamic and engaging format. Sebastian van Barneveld, director of global distribution at Talpa Studios, praised the show’s adaptability and lasting appeal in the competitive entertainment landscape.
“The Floor” features 100 quiz enthusiasts competing in duels on a giant LED floor divided into 100 squares, each representing a different field of knowledge. Contestants challenge each other in quiz categories like “famous athletes” and “Hollywood actors” to conquer the entire floor and win a cash prize.
The rules are straightforward: contestants engage in quiz duels based on their opponent’s square, with questions supported by visuals, sound, and various formats. The last person standing after eight episodes wins the grand prize.
