Taylor Swift concluded her press tour for “The Life of a Showgirl” with a final appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers.” This special segment aired on Tuesday and marked Meyers’ 1,713th episode, a fitting alignment with Swift’s 12th studio album release and her notable affinity for the number 13.
During the episode, Swift and Meyers discussed her record-shattering new album, which achieved the status of the most-streamed album in a single week just hours before the show went live. They also touched on her self-directed music video for “Fate of Ophelia,” which included her Eras Tour dancers and singers.
Typically protective of her music, Swift shared that she privately played the new album for her dancers before shooting the music video. “Those who were with us on the Eras tour know how to keep a secret,” she remarked.
Reflecting on her recent stadium performances, Swift confessed to experiencing FOMO while observing the VIP tent on show nights. At a London performance, her then-boyfriend and now fiancé Travis Kelce was surrounded by friends and celebrities, including Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Tom Cruise, Hugh Grant, and acclaimed director Greta Gerwig, who is one of Kelce’s favorites. “He adores Greta Gerwig and her work,” said Swift.
After one concert, during their typical post-show car rides, Kelce expressed disappointment that Gerwig didn’t find his “Barbie” joke amusing. Swift recounted him sharing with who he assumed was Gerwig: “I love ‘Barbie.’ I’m just Ken, too,” gesturing towards Swift. She noted that while she smiled, she didn’t say anything.
Later on, after seeing videos of Kelce and Gerwig dancing together online, Swift had an epiphany about the case of mistaken identity. “Do the math,” she said. “Is there a chance you complimented Hugh Grant’s wife, Anna, on her movie, ‘Barbie’? Maybe she nodded politely because she didn’t have the heart to correct you?”
With the Eras Tour completed and the “Showgirl” promotion tapering off, Swift is now turning her attention to wedding preparations. Meyers suggested various invitation ideas—from a digital invite to a framed print, humorously adding, “You could say it was my idea, so no one thinks you’re being conceited.”
Swift reminisced about a time when her security head called her during the Palisades fire because Zoë Kravitz’s snake had escaped in her house, discussed her newfound enthusiasm for baking bread, and their first meeting on SNL back in 2009.
She reflected on her SNL hosting experience, calling it “the most thrilling moment of my life at 19.” They laugh together remembering her skit that parodied the iconic film Twilight, a significant cultural moment from 2009. “Looking back, I feel really fortunate to associate my work with something as legendary as ‘Twilight.’”
Over ten years later, she humorously credits that SNL week for equipping her for the dynamic pace of the Eras Tour. “It was the most amount of outfit changes I’ve ever had in one week,” Swift shared. “I knew I could handle the Eras Tour with all its costume adjustments. It was the fastest-paced experience ever.”
That same determination carries on through her exciting new album release, her twelfth, which she describes as her favorite to date. “This has been the most delightful album release I’ve ever experienced,” she said.
