Emotional mourners gathered at Auckland’s domain to pay tribute to one of the missing teenagers from the Mt Maunganui landslide.

Sharon Maccanico, 15, is among the six people who are still missing following the tragic incident at a holiday park.

About 100 people, many of them young individuals, gathered on Monday evening to honor Sharon’s memory.

Despite the rain, many stood silently, reflecting on the loss, while others shed tears during the prayers.

An open invitation encouraged attendees to bring a light, candle, or simply offer their presence to remember Sharon’s joy, strength, and warmth.

During the vigil, two individuals led the crowd in prayer, asking for comfort and care for Sharon.

A shrine adorned with candles and flowers was set up in front of the mourners.

Pakuranga College confirmed that Sharon was one of its students who tragically lost her life in the landslide, along with Max Furse-Kee, also 15 years old.

The school expressed deep sorrow over the loss and stated that counseling and well-being support will be provided to the college community.

Originally from southern Italy, Maccanico’s passing has deeply impacted not only her school but also the wider community.

The Honorary Consul to Italy in Auckland, Lindsey Jones, expressed her sympathy for Maccanico’s family, stating that every Italian in the country is thinking of them during this difficult time.
