During a recent appearance on “Hannity,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) provided unintentional entertainment when he struggled to discuss his disdain for Democrats not embracing Elon Musk and his Department of Government Efficiency. This department, which Cruz claims uncovered fraud and corruption, led to the termination of numerous federal employees.
While passionately criticizing the Democrats for not supporting Musk’s actions against USAID, Cruz had a brief hiccup as he took a sip of water. He accused the Democrats of defending the agency, which has been under scrutiny by DOGE for its alleged mismanagement.
Amidst his rant, Cruz bizarrely mentioned “sex change operations in Guatemala,” a moment that quickly went viral on social media. Users were quick to mock Cruz for his awkward moment on live television.
However, the supposed fraud Cruz highlighted regarding a $2 million grant to an LGBTQ rights group in Guatemala was debunked. The funds were not solely for surgeries, as Cruz suggested, but also supported medication, mental health care, and speech therapy. Only a fraction of the grant has been allocated to the organization.
Cruz’s history of opposing transgender rights was also brought up, including his focus on the issue during his reelection campaign. DOGE, under Musk’s influence, has been dismantling federal agencies, raising concerns about conflicts of interest among voters.
Despite the serious topics discussed, social media users couldn’t resist poking fun at Cruz’s water-drinking mishap.
