A tragic incident unfolded in the Bronx that resulted in the death of 16-year-old football standout Christopher Redding and left two other teens wounded. The suspect responsible for the shooting, a 17-year-old boy, has been arrested and charged with murder, attempted murder, manslaughter, assault, and criminal possession of a loaded firearm.

The arrest took place in the northwest Bronx, but the identity of the arrested teen has not been disclosed due to his status as a minor. This arrest marks the first breakthrough in the case following the deadly shooting at Broadway and West 238th Street in Kingsbridge.

The altercation that led to the shooting reportedly began inside a McDonald’s and spilled out onto the street, escalating into a violent confrontation. Redding was fatally shot in the back during the incident, while a 15-year-old boy and a 13-year-old girl sustained injuries to their right legs. Despite being rushed to St. Barnabas Hospital, Redding succumbed to his injuries, while the other two teens were listed in stable condition.

Redding’s father, Bryan Corley, revealed that the tragic event unfolded while his son was simply out to grab a meal. An altercation between some individuals inside the McDonald’s prompted Redding to intervene and help a friend, ultimately leading to the fatal outcome.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, with authorities looking into the possibility of gang involvement and whether Redding was specifically targeted. Surveillance images of four individuals wanted in connection with the incident have been released, as three additional suspects remain at large.

As the community mourns the loss of a promising young athlete, anyone with information regarding the remaining suspects is urged to contact the NYPD’s Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS. The search for justice and closure in this heartbreaking case continues as investigators work tirelessly to unravel the circumstances surrounding the tragic shooting.
