Telemundo is gearing up to remake the popular Spanish drama series “Velvet” with an exciting new cast. The lead roles will be played by Yon Gonzalez and Samantha Siqueiros, known for their work in “Cable Girls” and “Money Heist” prequel “Berlin” respectively. Joining them is Danilo Carrera from Ecuador, adding his talent to the mix.
The original “Velvet,” produced by BambĂș Productions for Atresmedia TelevisiĂłn, is a beloved show that explores themes of love, family, and ambition in the world of fashion. The story follows the romantic saga between Alberto MĂĄrquez, heir to GalerĂas Velvet, a prestigious fashion house, and Ana, a seamstress at the store.
Telemundo’s adaptation of “Velvet” will be set in present-day New York and will be filmed at the Telemundo Studios in Miami, as well as on location in New York starting in late February. The network is also in talks with leading Latino fashion designers for potential cameo appearances in the series.
Javier Pons, Telemundo Studios executive VP, expressed excitement for the project, noting the overwhelming response from actors and actresses eager to be a part of the show. He emphasized the network’s commitment to innovation and providing opportunities for both established and emerging talents.
Siqueiros will take on the role of Ana VelĂĄsquez, a character who rises from humble beginnings in Mexico to make a name for herself in New York. The series will juxtapose the worlds of haute couture in Manhattan with the everyday struggles of Velvet workers in Queens, staying true to the original storyline.
Telemundo is expecting a successful run with its upcoming projects, including exclusive coverage of the FIFA Soccer World Cup in 2026. The network has already seen success in primetime programming, with shows like “El Señor de los Cielos” and “La Casa de los Famosos” leading the way and attracting a growing audience.
