4:13 PM PT — Omaha Mayor John Ewing has issued a statement acknowledging the incident. He has promised a thorough and transparent internal investigation.
Mayor Ewing is encouraging residents to recall the celebratory aspects of the parade yesterday rather than dwell solely on the unfortunate ending. He reiterated his commitment to the safety of all Omaha residents.
Terence Crawford was forcibly extracted from a vehicle at gunpoint by an officer, with the distressing exchange captured on video, prompting an internal investigation.
The video circulating online illustrates the boxer unfastening his seatbelt and stepping out of the vehicle as an officer stands at his window, flashlight in one hand and service weapon in the other.

During the encounter, the officer kept commanding Crawford to exit the vehicle, to which he responded, “I ain’t reaching for no gun,” maintaining his hands raised throughout.
Following this tense moment, the officer proceeded to conduct a pat-down before the video concluded.
The Omaha Police Department released a statement stating that both the Mayor and the Chief of Police have ordered an internal review of the traffic stop in question.
The statement detailed that around 1:30 a.m., officers in the downtown area observed a vehicle driving recklessly near North 12th and Capitol Avenue, leading to a traffic stop.
While interacting with the driver, an officer detected a firearm on the driver’s side floorboard, prompting them to order all four occupants out of the vehicle at gunpoint for safety reasons.
Ultimately, the officers established that all individuals in the vehicle had licenses to carry. A police supervisor and lieutenant responded to the scene upon Crawford’s request.
In an ironic twist, earlier that same day, Crawford received a hero’s welcome in Omaha as he was celebrated in a parade commemorating his recent victory over Canelo Alvarez. The day’s events took an unexpected turn, far from the anticipated celebration.
Registered as an undefeated champion, Crawford’s record stands at an impressive 42-0, making him the undisputed welterweight and super middleweight champion.
As of now, Terence Crawford has opted not to comment on the situation.
