Tesla CEO Elon Musk Announces Production Version of Second-Generation Roadster Supercar to be Revealed on April 1, 2026
During Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting, CEO Elon Musk made a surprising announcement that the production version of the company’s highly anticipated second-generation Roadster supercar will be unveiled on April 1, 2026. This revelation comes nearly nine years after Musk first introduced the project.
Musk, known for his tendency to miss deadlines, humorously mentioned that choosing April Fools’ Day for the reveal allows for “some deniability.” He jokingly added, “Like, I could say I was just kidding” if the unveiling happens to be delayed further.
Despite Musk’s recent claim on Joe Rogan’s podcast about showcasing the new Roadster by the end of the current year, he confirmed the delay by stating that the actual reveal will occur next year. He emphasized that the production version of the supercar will be significantly different from its previous iterations.
Furthermore, Musk teased that the upcoming demo will be the “most exciting, whether it works or not, demo ever of any product.” Speculations suggest that Musk has been exploring the possibility of incorporating SpaceX-built thrusters into the new Roadster to enhance its performance.
Although Musk projected a timeline of 12 to 18 months for the production of the second-generation Roadster post-reveal, he assured shareholders that customers who preordered the exclusive “Founders Series” version of the vehicle will be invited to the unveiling event as a gesture of appreciation.

But 7.5 years has felt like a long time to wait.” Musk, known for his direct communication style, responded to Altman’s complaints by highlighting that the refund issue was promptly resolved within 24 hours.
