Tesla’s Gigafactory in Germany is set to expand its workforce by 1,000 employees by the end of June, aiming to increase production by approximately 20% in the third quarter. This decision comes in response to the growing demand for the Model Y, with recruitment for the Gruenheide plant near Berlin scheduled to kick off in May.

In addition to the new hires, around 500 employees on temporary contracts are expected to be transitioned to permanent roles throughout the year as part of the production ramp-up. The company is also actively seeking several hundred employees for battery cell production, which is slated to commence in the first half of 2027.

The Gruenheide plant, currently employing approximately 11,500 staff, is Tesla’s sole gigafactory in Europe. The U.S. electric vehicle pioneer has been facing challenges in the European market with dwindling market share, making this expansion a strategic move to boost its presence and meet the increasing demand for its products.

The news was reported by Christina Amann, with the article written by Friederike Heine and edited by Madeline Chambers. This development underscores Tesla’s commitment to growth and innovation in the electric vehicle industry, as it continues to make strides in sustainable transportation.
