A Growing Number of Tesla Owners Putting Used Vehicles Up for Sale
Amidst Elon Musk’s political activities and the global protests they have sparked, there has been a notable trend among Tesla owners. A growing number of them are choosing to put their used vehicles up for sale, reflecting a shift in consumer sentiment.
According to a report by Sherwood News, data from Autotrader parent company Cox Automotive revealed a significant surge in the number of used Tesla vehicles listed for sale on Autotrader.com in March. The final week of the month saw an unprecedented average of over 13,000 used Teslas being listed for sale, marking a 67% increase from the same period the previous year.
Interestingly, while the market for used Teslas is booming, sales of new Tesla vehicles have experienced a slowdown. In contrast, other electric vehicle (EV) brands have seen an uptick in sales. According to the latest report from Kelley Blue Book, nearly 300,000 new EVs were sold in the first quarter of 2025 in the U.S., representing a 10.6% year-over-year increase. However, Tesla sales during the same period declined by almost 9% compared to 2024.
Despite the dip in Tesla sales, other automakers like GM and Hyundai are witnessing growth in their EV sales. GM brands, for instance, sold over 30,000 EVs in the first quarter, nearly doubling the volume from the previous year. This signals a broader trend of increasing interest and demand for electric vehicles in the market.
