Two individuals from Texas have been accused of planning a heinous plot to invade a small Haitian island with an army of homeless people. The motive behind this twisted plan was to kill all the men on the island so they could enslave the women and children as their “sex slaves,” according to federal prosecutors.
Gavin Rivers Weisenburg, 21, and Tanner Christopher Thomas, 20, were indicted for conspiracy to murder, maim, or kidnap in a foreign country for their bizarre scheme aimed at fulfilling their rape fantasies. The US Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of Texas revealed that the duo planned to purchase a sailboat, firearms, and ammunition, recruit homeless individuals from Washington, DC, and launch an invasion on Gonave Island, home to approximately 100,000 people.
The accused individuals went as far as enrolling in various programs to acquire the necessary skills for their murderous plan. Thomas even joined the US Air Force to gain military expertise essential for the invasion. He changed his station assignment to be closer to potential recruits in the DC area. Weisenburg, on the other hand, enrolled in the North Texas Fire Academy to learn command-and-control protocols and traveled to Thailand for sailing lessons.
The pair undertook numerous overt acts to further their invasion plan, including learning Haitian Creole and making operational and logistical arrangements. Additionally, they were charged with persuading a minor to create child pornography, which was discovered on their devices.
Gonave Island, located in Port-au-Prince Bay, is the largest island off Hispaniola. Despite its picturesque beaches, the island has faced challenges such as widespread hunger, as reported by the La Gonave Community & Child Association.
Weisenburg and Thomas, residents of Allen and Argyle, respectively, could face life imprisonment if found guilty of conspiracy to murder, maim, or kidnap in a foreign country. Furthermore, they may face up to 30 years in prison for the child pornography charges.
The disturbing nature of the plot concocted by these individuals sheds light on the extent of their depravity and the lengths they were willing to go to fulfill their sinister desires. The implications of their actions, had they succeeded, would have been catastrophic for the inhabitants of Gonave Island. The legal proceedings will determine the fate of Weisenburg and Thomas as they face the consequences of their malevolent intentions.
