The repercussions of four years spent with open borders during the Biden administration are likely to linger for the foreseeable future. In contrast, former President Trump has made strides to fulfill his commitment to fortifying the border. Yet, law enforcement agencies are grappling with the fallout of this policy shift, as they address the complexities of illegal immigration within the United States.
The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) recently provided aerial support to the Border Patrol in an operation aimed at apprehending a smuggler transporting illegal aliens. The incident unfolded in El Paso County, where the suspect attempted to evade capture by fleeing into the desert after getting stuck in the sand. Nevertheless, the coordinated efforts of law enforcement ultimately led to the arrest of both the driver and four illegal immigrants.

Texas DPS frequently encounters human smugglers engaged in the transport of illegal aliens. Just days ago, reports surfaced of DPS troopers chasing a reckless driver, who was endangering lives by speeding and running red lights. This high-speed pursuit concluded when troopers executed a Precision Immobilization Technique (PIT) maneuver, successfully bringing the situation to a halt and apprehending the driver.

In the face of federal policies perceived as lax under the Biden administration, Texas has emerged as a frontline state in the battle against illegal immigration. Governor Greg Abbott’s Operation Lone Star, initiated in 2021, aims to curb the influx of dangerous substances like fentanyl and reduce illegal crossings. This initiative has been bolstered by the involvement of Texas DPS and the Texas National Guard, highlighting a state-level response to federal inaction.
Furthermore, Article IV, Section 4 of the United States Constitution underscores the federal government’s obligation to safeguard states from invasion, stating: “The United States shall guarantee to every State in this Union a Republican Form of Government, and shall protect each of them against Invasion; and on Application of the Legislature, or of the Executive (when the Legislature cannot be convened) against domestic Violence.”
It appears that, in Texas at least, the rule of law is making a comeback.
