Texas has decided to discontinue its policy of granting in-state tuition rates to undocumented immigrants.
This decision follows a lawsuit filed by the Department of Justice on Wednesday, challenging what it describes as a discriminatory state education policy that favors undocumented foreign students. The lawsuit claims that Texas’s approach unjustly disadvantages out-of-state American students by offering in-state tuition benefits to individuals without legal residency.
On the same day, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton collaborated with the Trump administration to seek the repeal of this law.
This action is part of a broader initiative by the Trump administration aimed at tightening immigration policies. President Trump has previously issued two executive orders designed to prohibit ‘benefits or preferential treatments’ for undocumented immigrants.
