The death toll in Texas has tragically climbed to 109 following the devastating floods on July 4. Search and rescue operations are ongoing, with 161 individuals reported missing. While state officials have yet to transition to recovery efforts, they confirmed the last rescue of a survivor was made on Friday. Texas Governor Greg Abbott has pledged that first responders will persist in their efforts until every missing person is found.

  • 🎧 Abbott has indicated that investigations into the flood response will likely commence later this week, coinciding with a special legislative session to address the disaster. While residents have criticized the lack of warning, no responsibility has been assigned yet. The absence of an outdoor warning system in Kerr County, the hardest-hit area, has prompted discussions on improving alert mechanisms. Meanwhile, volunteers like Kyle McCormick are resilient, determined to rebuild after this catastrophic event.

Foreign policy has been a major focus for President Trump this week, particularly in his meetings with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Discussions have centered around Gaza, with Netanyahu even proposing Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize.

  • 🎧 Middle East envoy Steve Witkoff expresses hope for an Israel-Hamas agreement by week’s end, aiming for lasting peace in Gaza. Challenges persist in resolving conflicts in Gaza and Ukraine, with Trump expressing frustration towards Russian President Vladimir Putin over the Ukraine situation. Former Ambassador William Taylor suggests Putin may be manipulating the situation to his advantage.

The Trump administration can now proceed with layoffs affecting hundreds of thousands of federal employees, following a Supreme Court ruling. This decision allows for workforce reductions at various government agencies, impacting around 20 departments.

  • 🎧 Notable agencies like the Department of Health and Human Services and the Treasury Department are among those affected. Layoff notices have already been issued, with legal challenges pending. The Department of Veterans Affairs, however, is exempt from large-scale layoffs due to ongoing staff reductions through other means.
